IDC Schedule for 2025

Oceans 5 Gili Air has announced the final PADI Instructor Development Courses (IDCs) of the year. The remaining dates for 2025 are:

  • 10 September

  • 15 October

  • 19 November

These courses will be conducted under the guidance of PADI Course Director Waz, who is responsible for leading candidates through the Instructor Development process.

About Oceans 5 Gili Air

Oceans 5 Gili Air is the only PADI Career Development Centre (CDC) on the island of Gili Air, a status awarded to dive centers that demonstrate consistent high standards in professional-level scuba training. The dive center offers instructor-level training in small groups, with a focus on thorough preparation for the PADI Instructor Examination (IE).

Why This Period Is Significant

The September, October, and November programs represent the last IDCs of the year at Oceans 5. For candidates aiming to begin work during the upcoming high season in December and January, these courses provide an opportunity to complete training in time to seek employment.

Additionally, enrollment during these sessions allows candidates to join the IDC at the current 2025 course prices before any future adjustments.

Training Approach

The IDC at Oceans 5 typically runs across a 20-day schedule, providing a balance between classroom theory, confined water training, and open water teaching presentations. The extended structure is designed to give candidates sufficient time to learn, practice, and refine teaching techniques.

Oceans 5 maintains small group sizes, ensuring that candidates receive direct feedback and support from the Course Director. In some cases, when four or more candidates are enrolled, the Instructor Examination (IE) can be conducted directly on Gili Air, reducing the need for travel to other islands.

Considerations for Candidates

  • Timing: Completing the IDC before December allows graduates to enter the job market during one of the busiest hiring periods in Indonesia and other tropical destinations.

  • Location: Gili Air offers a range of dive sites in close proximity, providing a practical environment for skill development.

  • Climate: For candidates coming from Europe, the autumn and winter months coincide with cooler weather at home, making Indonesia a preferred training destination.

Conclusion

The upcoming IDCs at Oceans 5 Gili Air—scheduled for September, October, and November 2025—are the final opportunities this year for divers to complete their instructor training on the island. With guidance from Course Director Waz, a structured 20-day program, and the chance to enter the diving industry in time for the December high season, these sessions present a practical pathway for divers ready to take the next step in their professional development.
